Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

I been coming here for the past 5 yrs. They serve you tostadas and lime as an appetizer and you can add any of your favorite chili in a bottle to add some spice. They have a special home made chili sauce that gives it that taste your looking for. Im a fan of ceviche. Nothing to special on the flavor. You need to add lime and sauce to bring the taste out. Friendly waitresses attend you. Reason Im rating 4 is because they can do better on the taste and service.

what i ordered... sauteed garlic prawns with avocado salad prawns was good.... freshly sautéed with simple yet tasty garlic flavor. salad was ok, chopped up by middle schooler with two thin slice of avocado. ambiance... so-so (old and a bit rundown, huge dining area with lotsa posters and tv monitors) service... good (lost in translation but nice) cost... $+ (a bit expensive)

Good place to eat mariscos. Ingridients are fresh flavorful. Good variety of marisco plates and dishes. Cons: service takes a while to bring the food. During my lunch experience i was confused as to who my waiter was because no waiter formally introduced herself/ himself to us. We were serviced by 3 different waiters.

i dont get it how come this place has a restroom looking like this ... is no freaking nasty and stink like crap.. come on if you have so many clients please a least expend some of the proofit to have a decent restroom.... also whe you walk in in the parking lot area stink like a dead rats.. this people needs the city of san jose to visit them .. the dining area are so dirty and feels like you touching the crap all over the walls ...

Best place for Mariscos in San Jose. My usual is a warm shrimp cocktail and some oysters so if its your first time coming to this place, i recommend the cocktail for sure. Ceviche is on point along with the fried fish so you can't go wrong. The place does get loud and pretty busy on Sundays so if you're looking for quiet place to eat, this wouldnt be the spot. But, if you're lookin to drink some beers and watch soccer then this is the place.
(5)William L.
The best place to get seafood in the way that Mexican's cook them! Tostadas are the best to start.
(4)Irene O.
Honestly, the only thing that I come here for are the seafood ceviche and the shrimp tacos. It's amazingly delicious. It's authentic and not like anything I've had before. Their hot sauce added a nice little kick to it as well! Definitely well worth the money and my go to spot for these two items.
(4)Raul B.
Cold beer, good tostadas and music. Great place to end the day.
(4)Teresa D.
Been here a couple times, and so far the food has been yummy, I love their tostadas d ceviche. The bf loves their micheladas. The service isn't that good but honestly I don't really care much as long as we get our food
(4)Arlene M.
I have been here a few times with my hubby and the food is good we really have enjoyed it. I have to say the service is a little all over the place but they served you promptly and are kind to you're needs. Not many food choices for children so maybe for adults to chill have few drinks and enjoy the music and food would be better. I will be returning to enjoy their food.
(4)Jose M.
Love this place. The ceviche is great and fairly priced. I've never had any issues with the freshness and the service is pretty fast. Be aware...it gets PACKED on weekends especially sundays!
(4)Leilani C.
Seafood was delicious and FRESH! They do NOT have there liquor license so all you can get is beer here FYI.. This place needs a good cleaning.. Its reallllllly dirty the food is so good they really need to get the rest of the place on board...
(3)Analisa ..
This is my favorite place for seafood! I come here very often with my family and the food is always delicious. Would highly recommend this place for anyone craving seafood! My favorite is the coctel de camarones & tacos de camaron.
(5)Chris C.
Food was ok. Service was ok. Great atmosphere thou. But why don't they have beans ??lol.
(3)Marisol Z.
This is my favorite place to get shrimp tacos and their aguachile is super spicy so I love it. The tostadas they put on your table have the best taste I've ever had. I enjoy ordering the mixed plate to make my own tostadas. Fast service. Some of my friends recommend their shrimp cocktail, but I wouldn't know because I've never ordered it. (My mom's looks way better, so I've never ordered it just to avoid disappointment) Here's the cons: I'll sadly admit there's a couple people I've taken that don't really care for the shrimp tacos. After many years of coming here I finally ordered a michelada and it tasted horrible. I drank it because I had paid for it but my friend couldn't even get halfway. It had a very fishy taste. And although I like that they supply you with pretty much everything you need at the table, their waiter service is pretty much over the moment they bring you your food. Overall, I just come for my shrimp taco fix every couple weeks and nothing else.
(3)Mary Ann B.
Place is pretty big and service is quick. Here's what we had: 1/2 dozen oysters $6 Small Ceviche mixto $7 Small Tamarindo There's plenty of tv's all around and there's a jukebox that's pretty much like iTunes. Oysters aren't that bad. They remind me of the oysters you can buy in bulk at pacific supermarket. Although the ceviche had nice beautiful sized shrimps and chunks of octopus it lacked flavor. I used all my limes, had to use salt (I do not like adding table salt especially more than needed) to bring out the flavor, and hot sauce cause I love that kick. I love seafood, but I was not impressed. The tamarindo was watered down, I prefer it to be more sour. I love the tamarindo at Los Panchos in San Francisco.
(3)bfree L.
Went here because my wife and her co-workers said it was "the bomb", I wouldn't agree with their analysis, it was OK, but that is it. We drove from Fremont to get there and I wasn't that impressed. I had the Spicy Deep fried Red Snapper, which the chef Over fried. I know you don't go to restaurants for the decor, but I would suggest that they put A Little of the profits in cleaning the place up. You definitely come for the Copa Campechana and the taco specials, which I witnessed most people ordering. If I am in the area I would try them again to give them a second chance, but I would not make another special trip to go there. I am sure you can find Mexican Seafood just as good OR better in your neighborhood
(3)Joseph V.
The best Mariscos joint in the entire Easy Bay area!!! There really isn't any competition. I highly recommend his place to anyone that loves Mariscos!!
(5)Ella U.
Sea food delight... The sea food is soooo good here and they serve good portions Large menu to pick from and decent pricing Located by happy hollow park and zoo the parking is behind the building so just drive around. The customer service is meh. They greet you sit you take your order bring your food and check in once, maybe twice you have to flag them down but once you do they are very quick to meet your request You have to pay up front at the register after you are done with your meal The usually have soccer playing on their Tvs or music selected by the customers on a coin operated music player, really mexican music usually, sometimes obnoxious, but the food is GREAT there so ill deal with the music It's not a fancy looking place, simple chairs and simple tables, but yummy yummy shrimp cocktails!
(3)Adrián O.
This place is discusting the mens bathroom had writing all over the wall. And the food is worse i had the shrimp tacos and they were mushy and gross and i got food poisoning . Servise is ok.They have this really spicy sause and a bottle of tapatilo.
(1)Tatyanna S.
Love this place! Fast service, friendly environment and bomb food! We always get cocktail de camarón & campechana. All there missing is some chavelas!
(4)Blueberry S.
We love this place. We were the only two non Latino in the restaurant at that time. The servers were very friendly and helpful. Love our shrimp cocktail!!
(5)Juan Carlos B.
Good sea food, cocktails freshly made. Friendly staff. Place needs a makeover... Other then that is worth it.
(3)Kayla A.
My favorite are the Camarones a la Diabla. Service is horrible!!!!! Do not check up on you, the man at the front did not greet us and was instead looking at the tv. Saw him on the phone twice. The ladies just talk to each other and most of the time are nowhere to be seen if it wasn't for their shrimp I would have given them no stars.
(3)Ayleen T.
I LOVE it here!! The BEST shrimp tacos, ever! I've tried the cocteles which are also good and come with lots of shrimp! The staff is friendly. 4 stars since it's always crowded and the music and TV's are too loud!
(4)Angel A.
This location is not the prettiest restaurant, service is really slow and attitude could be better. One thing I have to say the food was great. The shrimp diablo was great. I would recommend it to anyone. Other than that one of my pet peeves is that the ketchup and hot sauce bottle were not clean so they need to put more emphasize in these things.
(3)Louis D.
Not exactly sure what is going on, but the menu seems to be shrinking while the prices are increasing. What happened to the shrimp tacos? This was probably the most popular menu item (see other Yelp reviews). Anyway, not planning on writing off this place yet (still probably the best shrimp cocktail in town) but still - don't get rid of the most popular items.
(3)Cindy M.
Okay people this is authentic but if you want authentic it's going to be a little hood. I come here twice a month food is yummy, michelads on point. Caldo miche is on point shrimp in garlic sauce so good they have the best rice. Overall pretty good I would suggest not going on the weekends because it does get crazy full .
(4)Sammantha B.
Prices were decent, service was okay, menu is small not too much to pick from, place gets really hot it was kind of uncomfortable to be eating when its soo hot! Went to this place because a friend had hyped it up to be A++ . I ordered the camarones al mojo del ajo and a tostada de ceviche, they were a-ok but nothing spectacular I could have not drove over 30 mins to san jose and got mariscos in my area, I wont be coming back theirs plenty of good places in san jose that are way better seafood spots. oh I forgot to mention they don't have frijoles ?!?! WTF
(3)Linh N.
I came here a few weeks ago. The items ordered are: a dozen of oysters, shrimp and octopus ceviche, shrimp tacos, garlic shrimp with rice and beverage was horchata. Everything was super delicious. By far, this is the best seafood taqueria I have eaten at. The bill total was only $48.00. Yes, only $48.00! If you are a seafood lover like me and looking for a cheap and good seafood Mexican taqueria, look no further. Come to San Juan Mariscos. You won't be disappointed. I'll be back for sure!
(5)Lisette R.
Place is a hole in the wall and certainly smells it! The trash bin is by the parking lot before entering the restaurant. It smells horrible (sea food waste basking in the sun eeeww) We went on a hot day, no fans or a/c. Place was pretty busy but they only had 2 waitresses. We ordered the shrimp cocktail. Thing was loaded with lots of shrimp :) but the taste was very bland, it was kind of warm. My BF ordered a chavela beer was warm, mug was hot. Towards the end of my meal I had to run to the restroom. I got sick immediately. Restrooms needed cleaning. I continued to be sick and visited the restroom the rest of the night at home. Did I mention I threw up? Sorry Will never go there again
(2)Lindsay L.
I love this place!!! Amazing service, great authentic food, and good micheladas! I was in heaven here and I had a great time. The waitress was really sweet and always kept checking on us even though it was so busy. I'll be back for sure.

I've read the reviews, I've seen this place when I was visiting the park across the street so I decided to finally check them out when I was attending another event at the park. Was a hot Sunday afternoon and the place was jumping. Soccer games on the TV and you could smell the seafood from outside the place. I was really hoping this place lived up to the expectations I had for it. Notes: Parking - was there on a Sunday and it sucked. Had to park like 2 blocks down the street in front of a apartment. You get fried tortillas and limes before your meal. No salsa. I'm told this is a sea food restaurant vs a regular restaurant and that's how it works. Service - The person I was with could speak Spanish so they already knew what I wanted and made it happen. No comments on the other reviewers about the surly wait staff. The menu isn't huge and has pictures so you could always point and grunt if your wait person didn't speak English. Ordered two beers, shrimp cocktail and shrimp tacos. For some reason they charge more for the same beer in a bottle vs a can. Beers come with a lime and a shrimp on the top. Kinda cool. Beer was also super cold. The shrimp cocktail was really good! The sauce was zesty and kinda spicy. Not a tremendous amount of shrimp in the cocktail though, but more than a few. The pictures other have submitted are very accurate of what they look like. The shrimp tacos were different from what I imagined. They had shrimp inside (duh) and maybe a shrimp past. Served smoking hot too. The taco was deep fried once it was made. Four to an order. On top of the tacos were sliced avocado and a spicy cabbage sauce on the side which was also real good. You kinda had to pry the tacos open to get the avocado and sauce in. I finally gave up and just rubbed the avocado on the top and dipped the taco in the sauce. The cost was on the expensive side but then again seafood always is. Your order gets taken from the table but you pay up front. Never received a bill at the table just told them which table we were at. As a little extra bonus there was a person outside selling ice cream - assuming local made since it was in igloo coolers. She had like 5 different flavors and she served them in a Styrofoam cup. Costs a buck a scoop. Great ice cream and great pallet cleanser to finish off the meal.

This is the second time and the last. So dirty.''................. needs a deep cleaning,.............
(2)Arlene G.
Their aguachile Verde is to die for! It's the only thing I have when I go here and for the most part it is always very good. They tend to go a little overboard with the cucumber, but the flavor is what really keeps me coming back.
(4)Dave V.
Good food, but pricey. Oysters were just ok. Hard to get service when the place is packed. Better to go on a weekday.
(3)Francisco B.
I got two tostadas de ceviche and they sucked. The ingredients didn't taste fresh and they skimped out on the fish. The texture of the fish was also kinda like tuna, I couldn't even taste the fish. The agua chiles were good though. Don't get the ceviche, it sucks. A person on my table really liked the coctel so give that a shot. The service was also lacking, they didn't bring me my agua and were taking forever to pick up our bill pay. I went up to pay at the cashier instead. The girl there had dozens of payments to process. I think they might have been under staffed. But I don't know, I'm just a customer.
(2)Thao V.
My coworker brought me to this place and now I know where to satisfy my ceviche cravings! I usually get the tostada mixta (I think that's how it's spelled) which is one taco shell stacked with tons of ceviche, avocado, shrimp, and octopus. You can also get it with just avocado, just shrimp, or just octopus but mixta is all three. It looks small in the picture but one was really filling since they give you so much food. They give you free taco shells too so you can make multiple with your order. And there's a bunch of different hot sauces on the table that you can try! Also tried the oysters here which is very decently priced. You can get half a dozen for only $5.50 and a dozen for maybe $10 or $11? Kind of a hit or miss though depending if you get the fresher ones or not. They were also kind of warm but for less than $1 each, can't really complain! Service was very friendly.
(4)natassia g.
I loe goin to this place and eating bomb shrimp tacos and having a nice cold chavela!!!! Yum! Shrimp cocktail good too!!! Yumm-o!
(5)Nam N.
The bf and I finally got to try Mariscos for lunch the other day. After hearing so much from my co-workers and Yelpers, we had to give it a try!! We grabbed a table and the waitress came by with menus and a basket of tostadas with lime. I was immediately happy because there were 5-6 bottles of different hot sauces already on the table waiting for me to try them all out. I LOVE CONDIMENTS! Per reviews and recommendations, we stuck to ordering the tostadas. I got the Ceviche Tostada ($2) and Camarones Tostada ($5). The bf got the Ceviche Tostada ($2) and Pulpo Tostada ($5). What a deal!!! I was tempted to order a beer since I was eyeing my neighbor's gi-normous Corona that was just delivered to him with two shrimps sticking out of the top. Huh---I've never seen that before. But since I'm trying to cut back, I decided a Sprite was the next best thing for a warm day. Our plates came out quickly and my eyes almost fell out of my head---it was HUGE!!! yelp.com/biz_photos/Z6CD… yelp.com/biz_photos/Z6CD… Each tostada was piled HIGH with tons of seafood and toppings. They seriously don't skimp at this place! The Ceviche Tostada was pretty good. A seafood mixture heavily mixed with lime juices and cilantro--all generously topped with avocado. The flavor was a bit light for me and I would have preferred some chopped fresh jalapenos with the mixture but the flavor was kicked up when I tried out some of the different hot sauces from the table. I actually ended up preferring the Camarones Tostada better. You still get a layer of the Ceviche but it's then topped high with a mound of shrimp as opposed to the avocado. The shrimp had a nice sweet flavor. The bf's octopus was pretty tasty too--not at all chewy or tough. I think if we're in the neighborhood on a warm summer day, we'd stop back. The price is ridiculously cheap and you definitely get your seafood bang for your buck!
(3)Abby O.
I have a love/hate relationship with this place. If I could, I would marry the chef and fire about 90% of the staff. But this is not the make a wish foundation... The food: I've order just about everything in the menu and it's finger-linking-good. The flavor is very authentic and it's one of the few places that truly reminds me of Mexico. I'm a big fan of their campechanas and shrimp tacos. Im also in love with their mojarras or camarones endiblados. This is the perfect place to enjoy a cold corona, a deep fried mojarra and a soccer match on tv. The staff: Honestly, I'd give the place a one star if it wasn't because of the amazing food. The servers which are mainly young mexican/latin women treat you like you're their baby's daddy. They hate you even though they don't know you. They give you that blank stare and that "are you done ordering?" look. I've had some good servers but still, the bad ones always take the cake. Also, it seems like they're not very organized but I think many authentic Mexican restaurants have the same problem. In fact. the more drama-chaos in the kitchen, the better the food. Nothing but mad-love hahah! The place is not the cleanest out there, I don't even want to think what the actual kitchen looks like but nevertheless I'll eat those campechanas with cucarachas and all.. haha! (kidding) If you order to go, about 99% of the time they get your order wrong.. SO double check before you leave. I have learned this the hard way. Food = 5 stars Service and everything else = 3 or a 2..
(3)Benson M.
BEST F**king Mexican Seafood Restaurant there ever is!!!!
(5)Diana M.
Pretty Good aguachile and their shrimp tacos are bomb. Fast Service and micheladas are cheap! and while your at it, check out the ice cream lady outside: The Coconut one is bomb. #notemetasconmicoco
(4)Jenifer V.
This place was just ok. Two stars for the food and one star for the parking. It was edible, but not a place that I'd ever come back to just because it was 'that good'. We ordered 3-4 different pupusas, but couldn't tell any of them apart! That can't be a good sign. Parking was a breeze if that matters to you.
(3)Bobby L.
Just like at their 4th street location, the shrimp tacos are what I usually get. At $5 per plate of four, these deep-fried corn tortilla tacos are filled with meaty shrimp and served with fresh avocado slices (on the side). I like to eat those also with the complimentary tostadas and lime. I recently had the Coctel de Camaron y Pulpo which was very refreshing. Again the shrimp were huge and the octopus was meaty. Taste was not too sweet and tangy, and not too fishy. I'd say it was perfecto and muy fresco with crackers and tostadas. Service is always quick and with a smile!
(4)celina m.
I think this is #1 and fourth street is #2? At least that's what the sign says downtown. Anyways, hands down, best shrimp tacos in South Bay. No one makes tacos dorados de camaron or shrimp cocktail like this. I searched the internet for the recipe and finally found it on an independent blog. Bottled beers are topped with rock salt, shrimp, and hot sauce. The best on a hot summer day.
(5)Maira C.
Let's see where do I begin. I was so disappointed in this place... The portions were small, ranchero shrimp was blah, we sat next to the door so every time it opened all our napkins went all over the place.. but the worst part of all was the FLY in my drink! Yes I said IT and will attach the pic to prove it, they were nice enough to not charge me for it.. Lol. I will never come here again, thats for sure
(1)Ben A.
Pros- it's never crowded, prices are decent, tacos are bomb, and the waiters are nice. Cons- I can never breathe when I'm here. Leave the door open or at least turn on the A/C please.
(4)Jackie F.
By far the best ceviche tostadas I've ever had at a restaurant. You can also get them with shrimp on top of the ceviche, delicious!
(4)P P.
Parking is awful. This is your typical hole in the wall Mexican food. Not super clean or great with service, but the food is tasty and well priced. I'd definitely go back. Traditional Mexican seafood. I loved the singing guy that's there on Fridays.
(4)Jesse G.
Never have I ate here, but DAMN! That smell drifting out of the place is digusting. You should clean out your dumpsters out back too. All of their stuff is frozen btw. I saw the FROZEN SEAFOOD TRUCK outside when I pulled up. No sooner was I pulling away shortly after this discovery. One word... NASTY.
(1)John P.
This is as close to Mexico Mariscos I've ever had!! My wife and I go to Mazatlan every year and we eat at a Mariscos joint that is very close to this one. They have very good food and the Camarones y pulpo cocktails are the BEST!! The Beer is a bit high but the combo of them and the great seafood covers the price. P.S. if your looking for any other food other than Mariscos forget about it.. They don't have Carne of any kind nor do they have refried beans. So don't go here with anyone who doesn't eat seafood.
(4)Sammy R.
I can't say I don't love this place because it would be a lie! Best cocktails I've tasted so far! The one downtown is just as good! Recommend the shrimp here!
(5)David S.
This Mariscos place makes me think I'm in Mexico. This is the real deal with fresh fish, good portions, avocado, and of course the seafood. I've eaten here many times and I love the soups, camerones plates, and seafood cocktail offerings in particular. One warning is that spicy is the real spicy at this place and not watered down much for gringos like me so expect to have plenty of cerveza if you order the Camerones Diabla. Their ceviche is just average, so that would be the only qualification I would give. I've never been to their other restaurants, so I'm only able to compare to this one.
(5)Ruby H.
My mother-in-law treated my husband and I here for lunch over the weekend. OMG, this place is the bomb. I'm so glad I don't live in SJ because I would be eating here 3x a week. We had the shrimp tacos and the camarones tostadas. Not only is the food delicious but the prices are so cheap. The shrimp tacos were my favorite, lovely shrimp with creamy avocado on top. Next time we come here we are definitely having the Ceviche! I agree with other reviewers that the place can be a little cleaner. The crackers that we had at our table tasted a bit dated. However, the tostada shells and lime were fresh and yummy.
(4)Mel P.
if You're looking for Cheap Mariscos San Juan is the Place !! $2 Ceviche Tostadas, cant go Wrong! The AguaChile is mmmmmm GooooooD But Veryyyy Spicy!! Ice Cold Beer Served w a Shrimp :) Definitely a hidden Gem.
(5)Genaro R.
Finally found some bomb Mexican seafood in the bay area. We had the cocyel de camaron, camarones al mojo de ajo oysters, y ceviche. Everything was great and the customer service was prompt and we got our food quickly. Extra plus since we were starvin like Marvin! I'll be coming back here again for sure!

Couldn't stay - its filthy dirty

$2 ceviche tostadas.... !!! where can you find that? Not only is the cevhiche cheap... it's fresh and good! Last Monday a friend invited me out for ceviche and I have to say I have to be in the mood for it...and Monday was a good day for sea food. The menu has a variety of dishes from fish, shrimp, ceviche, fish tacos, and my favorite camarones a la diabla which I want to try next. So on Monday being that I was not very hungry I ordered a ceviche tosatada along with a shrimp tostada. The service was ok, a bit slow I found it odd that they brought out my plate way before my friend's which I personally thought that was not a good thing,... anyway... once we both had our tostadas (which I couldn't wait to try) we began to eat. OMG! I felt like I was eating sea food on the beaches of Puerto Vallarta... the ceviche was on point! Fresh and tasty!!! and they sure piled up the ceviche on the tostada. My other tostada had shrimp on it, they loaded those shrimp on there. That one was a bit bland, but added a bit of salt and valentina hot sauce and a squeeze of lime and problem solved. The place is pretty big, however the parking lot is very very small. This is why I didn't give them 4 stars. I would definitely check the bill out before leaving because they just add up the meal and don't really give you anything with actual amounts. I can see how they can over charge.
(3)Arcelia G.
I came here on Sunday for the second time and I came back knowing exactly what I was going to order.... SHRIMP TACOS!!! I wasnt very hungry the first time that I came, so in looking at the menu I saw that the tacos or the tostada de Ceviche would be the smallest items in the menu. I went for the tacos after the recommendation of the waitress and I must say what a steller reccomendation. The tacos are so good. So even though my review is on the tacos alone...every person that I have come here with has ordered different things and they have all been satisfied with their meal. Ive tasted what they have ordered and everything was good. Parking is better in this location but it can be a bit of a hassle regardless. Keep that in mind when coming in terms of the hours. Service both times that I have come have been excellent. No attitude from the waitresses. There is ample seating, the place is bigger than what it looks. Im hooked on the tacos!!! Will come back for some more.
(4)Girl B.
Found this place on accident..... We were starving and didn't know the area well we checked every single plaza around for half decent food and found nothing until we saw Mariscos. We were hesitant at first because of the odor as you walk from the back parking lot to the door but as soon as we opened the door we were taken to another place. It didn't seem like we were in San Jose anymore. Hesitant we planned to start of with just the $2 ceviche. Pleased with it we ordered 3 more. It was filling! It was delicious! We were amazed. We were so happy we came back with the entire family the very next day to show off our new find. The service both days were GREAT! The staff was friendly the food came fast and delicious. This place is way beyond expectations. Found my fave Mexican Joint!
(5)N F.
This place has great Tostadas Camarones! The shrimp was plentiful and very fresh and I took my order to go. I was able to make 4 filled tostadas and loved the sliced avocado and tomato. I'll be back for more. On another trip I tried the Tacos Camaron; I honestly was suprised because I didn't like it. The tacos were over fried and it did not allow for adding the avocado or tomato inside because they were fried shut. Kinda a bummer but i would recommend the Tostadas to anyone. Very cheap as well!! BTW; it's all seafood here and they don't offer beans. I was able to get a nice side of Spanish rice and a green salad which made up for the lack of frijoles.

Ok so, yesterday, my boyfriend and I tried to go to the Rock'N'Rumble Festival in Kelley Park to visit one of my friends who was working a stand there. Unfortunately, we arrived just as S.W.A.T. arrived and closed down the park because of some odd motorcycle gang violence. We decided to pick a restaurant close-by for lunch and wait to see if the festival reopened... enter Mariscos San Juan 2. Now, I love Mexican food and this place is about as authentic as you can get. The menu is in Spanish so unless you have a pretty good understanding of Mexican food or the language, well, you'll be pointing at your neighboring tables plates. I ordered Camarones ala Diabla (10$) and my bf ordered a whole fried fish (10$). The shrimp were quite spicy and served with a mushy rice and small salad. They were good but not great. My boyfriends fried fish was realllly fried... to a crisp. Apparently the point to this is to be able to pull the meat off the bone and eat it like you would pork rinds. No, I'm not kidding. It was decent to taste but the idea of all that deep fried grease was weird. I also ordered a tostada de ceviche and it... was really good. Funny that it's the item I liked best and it was only 2$. The restaurant was PACKED and it was a much bigger restaurant than it appears from the street. To my knowledge, there was only seafood (as the name suggests) on the menu, no burritos or comida tipico. I probably wouldn't go back but I also understand that that doesn't mean it wasn't good, it just wasn't my thing.

mariscos San Juan on Willow Street is better when it comes to freshness and quality. Same exact menu too! yelp.com/biz/mariscos-sa…

The service is atrocious. I sat and waited while other Spanish speaking patrons were helped ahead of me. I guess single white chicks are kinda invisible. The portions are abundant and the prices low but you definitely get what you pay for. My oysters were unwashed, the fish ceviche tasted a few days old and I had to keep swatting the flies away. The michelada was the worst I have ever tasted. If you really know and appreciate fresh, good Mexican mariscos, you will not like this place. Enter at your own peril... Oh, and make sure you bring a man with you so the waitresses see you.

I'm not Mexican, but I imagine that this is what a seafood joint in Mexico is like. Seafood is all they sell. Seafood cocktails, seafood tostadas, seafood soup and fish and shrimp plates. Awesome. Good size portions and good prices. Great flavor and fresh seafood. What more could you want?

I went to San Jose for a car show this past Saturday and went to this place because it is right next to the park that I was at. I ordered 4 shrimp tacos and a Negra Modelo beer. The girl wanted to bring my beer with the food but I asked to have it now as I was thirsty. I'm glad I asked for it. I sat down and was chatting with friends for about 10-15 minutes. My beer was now gone and the tacos had just arrived. All I could think is that they took for ever to bring me my food. I started to eat my tacos and was pleasantly surprised. They were pretty good, not the best I ever had, but still pretty good. The order with 4 shrimp tacos and one beer was $10. Not to bad. The building is pretty large and was full of people. When I attend the car show next year I will go back to this place.

My boyfriend and I go every chance we get and we come all the way from Fremont. The shrimp cocktails are always fresh always plentiful and full of avocados which I absolutely love! The waitress have hella additude and have never heard of service with a smile, but the food is good and that's all that matters. I would definitely recommend this place if you love mexican seafood. I also reccomend the cerveza preparado or just ask for a Michelada they are super good.

$2 ceviche tostada? insane! And they put on a ton of ceviche, you can easily spread that out to 2-3 tostadas (which they provide for free) The octopus tostada is actually octupus plus ceviche. The octopus wasn't bad, but I'd rather just have the plain ceviche. orden de tacos: These are shrimp tacos with deep fried taco shells. They're very delicious too.

This place is awesome if you want a taste of authentic Mexican seafood. I always order a plate of mix seafood. The prices are great & the staff is friendly. The service is quick & if you like beer you have to try there Corona from Mexico it is delicious!

My girlfriend took me here for seafood cocktails and beer. Very tasty with generous portions. I will be back for Camarones a'la Diabla next time. Big screen T.V.s with Premiership soccer on the day we went was a plus. It looks like they have a big room in the back for large parties.

Flavor is bit off here and it's not quite clean compare with the original place.

The tostadas de ceviche are awesome. The beer with the shrimp on top is a nice touch as well.

You can not fail with this place. I leave full and happy everytime. Great food at a low price. I get the camarones a la diabla everytime, and boy do I enjoy them everytime. For my wife and I we spend about $30 with tip everytime we go. Dont let the price fool you, the food is top of the line. A must see for seafood.

This place is a dump! First of all I took the family out for dinner. And this is by far the worst restaurant in San Jose. The kids menu consists of 2 Nast looking dishes. My kids had the 5 pcs chicken nuggets and one of them looked as if someone had been chewed on and they tasted so nasty. The seafood was not fresh and this place was expensive. I could have taken the family out to Red lobster for a bit more. The shrimp was not cleaned properly it had sand in them. Others shrimp tasted nasty. The restrooms were broken and backed up. The silverware consisted of plastic forks. The parking lot was a nightmare and the place was packed with intoxicated clients. The service was terrible! I had better food in the streets of T.J. If you have ever seen the movie the brides maid, this is like that bad restaurant she takes the girls to. Stay away and McDonald is like a four star restaurant when compared to this place!

This is a great spot. Good Fish and Shrimp at great prices. Parking tricky. But I think it's a great deal. Limited menu, but, hey, that's what I want, cevich. Not tacos or burritos. Those are relegated to roach Coaches.

I tryed the Shrimp Coctail in this location and I would say is excellent. The Ceviche Tostadas are one of the bests in whole California. On top of food been delicious is in the inexpensive side. This is one of the few mexican places where food is real mexican.

If you are ever in San Jose make sure to come here. I have never been to the other locations. This place is great! I had the shrimp tacos. DELICIOUS!! My husband had the coctel de camaron, very good. The service is great. They keep the beer coming. This place only serves mariscos! Always some sort of sports game going on, sort of loud with numerous TVs, juke box but good food and good service. Great!
(5)jorge c.
the best shrimp coctel in the bay area....its always crowded because their seafood its really good.
(5)Miguel C.
BEWARE!!! make sure you check your bill before you hand over your money because this place has overcharged me and many others I have found out. VERY UNETHICAL PRACTICES!!!
